Epic Theater vs Dramatic Theatre

- epic theater ( german: episches theater) corresponds to bertolt brecht
- it is a theatrical movement of arising which was in the mid- 20th century.
- a number of practitioners who respond to the polictical climate of the time through the create of a new political theatre
- theater of reason non engament of emotion
- engaging in thinking process
- reminds people that they are watching drama, not real life.
- actors are used as tools and narrorators, make the audience understand the
- it is used to adress the audience directly with analysis, aruments, or a documentary.
- brecht used it to encourage the audience to adpot a more critical atitude to what was happening on the stage.
- brecht developed his verfremdungseffekt
- the use of anti-illusive techniques were so that he could remind the sectator that they are in a theater watching an enactment of reality and not reality itself.
Dramatic Theatre:
- it is more emottional and the oposite of the epic thetre,
- it inolves emotions
- relays on a persons soul
- impacts the audience with alot of emotions
- treats its audience as passive and can not be reached without their emotions
- the dramtic stage fully embodies the plot/event.
